The Filter Fandom
The presence of the Filter continues to grow, and cell-phone photography continues to create a real buzz in the professional photography community…. I think that photographers are cynical about filters in these apps because they’re threatened. They feel threatened because regular people are taking images that are supposed to only be taken by Professionals, in their point of view, so they need to figure out how to survive in a world where there are certain this can be replicated by millions of people. Well, not necessarily Millions, but anybody could come up out of the ranks, get some popularity on Instagram, and continue making a living as a photographer….. Is this a rare situation? Of course it is, however, that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t happen. As a matter of fact, I know for a fact that it does, and that it does threaten a lot of professional photographers, and for good reason too. However, in these situations, the answer should not be, in my opinion, to restrict the public, it should be to demand more from our professionals who are trying to protect their place. Basically, what it requires is adaptation. I know a lot of professionals think that the time of adaptation is beyond them, but that’s simply not the case. You always need to adapt. Always always always. Or, you risk becoming Antiquated, or come even worse, extinct.
